Last Saturday, December 7, was the Perth Bikers Charity Ride. It was my first time to participate and I did not know what to expect. I was told to drop in about 10 am, an hour before everyone was set to move out, so I can catch all the bikes in their decorated glory. Just getting to Lathlain Oval, the launch of point, was already exciting. There were heaps of bikes on the roads loaded with stuffed animals and xmas decoration. I got there and too my surprise, there were HEAPS of bikes. I can only guess the final number, but definitely more than a thousand. Every kind of bike from every make was there and it was nice seeing all of them decorated.
Some of the bikes that caught my attention included a supercharged custom, with the supercharger in place of where the tank is. When on lookers ask about the missing tank, the owner jokes that it runs on hydrogen it takes from the air. I also spotted an interesting Cafe racer, shaft driven, with a Honda engine. Of course, many people spotted that blue custom Hayabusa that was for sale. There were quite a few custom choppers, there was an orange one (I think it was orange), with its plates bent just for the sake of having it here, it was great!
I also got to hang around the Ducati Club of WA, funny seeing one of the members wearing a monsters inc. costume out for the ride. I hear he had Bananas in Pyjamas last year. The bike ride itself was for a good cause and it seems to have been going on for the last 38 years. Good job to the organisers!
